Step by step

  1. Schedule a certified chimney sweep (CSIA-certified) before winter.

  2. The sweep checks for creosote buildup, a major chimney fire cause.

  3. They inspect the flue liner, damper, and cap for damage or blockage (animal nests).

  4. Ask for a Level 1 inspection annually; a Level 2 if you've had changes or damage.
