Step by step
Close the door slowly and note where the latch hits the strike plate.
If it's slightly off, file the strike plate opening larger with a metal file.
If it's significantly off (door has settled/sagged), loosen the top hinge screws and add a shim.
Adjust the strike plate position by re-drilling slightly if needed.
Test the latch several times after adjustment.
