Step by step

  1. Check that the ground slopes away from the foundation at roughly 6 inches over the first 10 feet.

  2. Add and compact topsoil or fill dirt where the grade is flat or sloping toward the house.

  3. Extend downspout extensions to carry water at least 5-6 feet from the foundation.

  4. Re-seed or sod any disturbed areas to prevent erosion.

  5. For significant drainage issues, consult a drainage contractor about French drains.
