Step by step

  1. Turn off power at the breaker and test with a voltage tester.

  2. Confirm the dimmer is rated for your bulb type (LED-compatible dimmers exist).

  3. Remove the old switch and note wire positions.

  4. Wire the dimmer to match (some have a ground pigtail to connect).

  5. Mount, cover, restore power, and test the dimming range.
