Step by step
  1. Turn off power at the breaker and verify with a non-contact voltage tester.

  2. Remove the cover plate and unscrew the outlet from the electrical box.

  3. Note wire positions (black=hot, white=neutral, bare/green=ground) before disconnecting.

  4. Connect wires to matching terminals on the new outlet.

  5. Push the outlet into the box, secure it, replace the cover, and restore power.
